The extreme drought of 2026: After the spring frosts, another challenge arose
Following the spring frosts, our vineyards were hit by extreme drought and scorching sunshine. In this new episode, we’ll take you between the rows to show you the work carried out in June, the damage to the vines, and how drip irrigation helps.

After the spring frosts, we had hoped that the worst was behind us. However, nature had another tough test in store for us. A prolonged drought, high temperatures and intense sunshine have put our vineyards under extraordinary strain this year.
June determines the future harvest
June is one of the most important periods of the wine-growing year. The vines grow vigorously, begin to flower, and the tiny blossoms gradually develop into future bunches of grapes. Every task in the vineyard must be carried out at just the right moment.
In the latest instalment of our winemaking series, we’ll show you how we carry out shoot tying, leaf removal around the bunches and pruning during this period. These tasks help to maintain an airy and healthy canopy and create the right conditions for the development of the bunches.
When the vines struggle with a lack of water
The main focus this time is not just the day-to-day work in the vineyard, but above all the extreme drought of 2026. Cracked soil, parched aisles and leaves damaged by sunscald show just how challenging conditions can be for the vines. In specific shots, we compare healthy plants with those suffering from water shortage and heat.
Drip irrigation, which we installed in previous years, has been a great help this year. Thanks to it, we can deliver water directly to the roots at the very moment the vines need it most. It is particularly important for young vineyards.
